As Winter approaches the colder
weather usually means lower temperatures and humidity, constant indoor
heating, dry recycled air and harsh outdoor exposure. All of these can make skin lose its healthy glow,
and make it feel itchy and dry.
Here are some tips to soothe, renew, revitalize
and keep your skin looking great year round:
- Use a mild soap-free, facial cleanser and switch
to a richer facial moisturizer.
- Avoid exfoliating too often. The dry air in many homes actually
exfoliates skin. So you need to moisturize each day.
- Apply moisturizer to damp skin after showering.
After patting - not wiping off - your body with
a towel, slather on a rich cream.
- Avoid long, hot showers as they can rob your skin
of much-needed moisture.
- Don't skip the sunscreen. You can't protect yourself
enough from the sun so don't be lulled into thinking
that the rays aren't reaching you in winter. Continue
to apply sunscreen, or a moisturizer with sunscreen,
daily.
- Skin really takes a beating from wind and cold
and needs extra protection -- for example, an Active
Daily Moisturizer Lotion with SPF 15. If you have
dry skin, consider changing your moisturizer to
one that moisturizes more - especially women who
participate in winter sports or spend time with
children outdoors.
- Remember to see your aesthetician for specially
designed moisturizing facials and paraffin hand
and foot-treatments, which soothe dry skin, renew,
revitalize and deeply moisturize the skin, keeping
it soft and supple all winter long.
