Cannabis Canada

In 2018, the Canadian government passed legislation to legalize cannabis for recreational use. Canada is the first major world economy do so. In most provinces and all territories, people are allowed to possess four marijuana plants per household.

What you need to know about the cannabis plant.

The cannabis plant originally comes from Asia. It is now grown around the world, including in Canada. Cannabis contains hundreds of chemical substances. Over 100 of these are known as cannabinoids. Cannabinoids are made and stored in the plant’s trichomes. Trichomes are tiny, clear hairs that stick out from the flowers and leaves of the plant. Cannabinoids have effects on cell receptors in the brain and body. They can change how those cells behave and communicate with each other.

Cannabis is a word typically associated with marijuana and with good reason. Cannabis is the genus to which the plant marijuana belongs to and such association has led to the word cannabis to be interchangeable with marijuana. It has also being to describe or name some of the products made from marijuana such as cannabis oil. Cannabis oil is a popular product that is favoured by recreational users and people seeking an alternative form of medication.

CBD OIL

CBD oil contains little to no THC.  The oil doesn’t produce the high that can effect day to day activities.

Cannabidiol (CBD) is another cannabinoid. Unlike THC, CBD does not produce a high or intoxication. There is some evidence that CBD may block or lower some of the effects of THC on the mind. This may occur when the amount of CBD in the cannabis is the same or higher than the amount of THC.

CBD is also being studied for its possible therapeutic uses.

Cannabis extract dissolved in oil can be used to make other forms (for example, edibles) and drinks containing extracts of cannabis.

Cannabis extract dissolved in a solvent, often alcohol can be used to make other products (for example, edibles).

Cannabis extract preparation prepared with alcohol, oil or wax can be applied to the skin.

Canada – cannabis, cannabis extracts and cannabis topicals will be available for legal sale no later than October 17, 2019.
